Twitures your tweeted pictures gallery

FAQ | @Twitures

What?

Twitures is a search engine for tweeted pictures organized by Twitter username

Why?

Your mobile phone application tweets photos from a specific photo enabler for twitter, but you prefer to use another one from your Mac and sometimes you post photos directly from Facebook or Flickr...
Now the photos you tweeted using any of those sources are available in a single gallery here at Twitures.

We've had some indirect encouragment as well.

You're missing some of my pictures!

Yep, that's likely. Twitures went live at the end of October 2009, but we were quickly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of tweets. We were offline from mid-December 2009 until the end of March 2010 while we designed a more robust site capable of better handling Twitter's volume. So if we indexed your tweets in our first run, you may see some gaps between those two periods.

We're currently limiting our indexing to pictures that are still available via Twitter's search. So, we can only see about 2 weeks into the past. Therefore, most users only see twitures from about 2 weeks before we started indexing their account forward. The good news is that once we've indexed your account we recheck it frequently enough that we shouldn't miss anything you post in the future...

But my photos are private!

Anything displayed on Twitures was viewable by the world. We don't collect any non-public data. In fact, we don't even collect photos! We only point to your photos using the links you provided in your public tweets. If you have a privacy concern about material you posted to twitter, you'll likely want to make your twitter profile private. Twitures never collects data from private profiles or otherwise circumvents Twitter's security features.

What's with the fail whale?

We index your tweets that point to images, but we don't actually try to load those images. When we display your twitures, we ask your web browser to load those images - if it can't then the fail whale is displayed. Don't blame us - we're just pointing to the source you referenced in your tweet!

Don't recognize a twiture?

Just mouseover the image or click it and look at the bottom of the shadowbox. Both methods will display the full tweet you posted including the original url to the image we're displaying.

SPAM!

We don't spam. Ever. Besides, we're not even selling anything!
Twitures does post automated messages to our own Twitter account but we never use automated reply-to's or direct messages.

Who & How?

"We" is a euphemism. This is a one man show. I post the more interesting technical details on my blog from time to time. Feel free to ping me in the comments below or @Twitures.
